Ultra-fast fashion giant Shein has been operating a members-only club in the US for nearly two months, with users who pay a quarterly fee of $6.99 receiving exclusive discounts on thousands of items, as the firm looks to lock in customers and offset rising costs. Chinese online media outlet Xinshang reported on Tuesday that the fashion retailer is under pressure to raise prices across the board as it faces higher costs in production, warehousing, logistics, and advertising, as well as continued criticism over its environmental impact and labor practices. Some Shein consumers told Xinshang that the platform has upped prices on items with high sales volumes and that they have witnessed some clothing prices increase by more than 1.5 times in a month.
